PCB Design for Assembly (DFA) Review
Check your PCB design and assembly files before the PCBA build. Share the BOM, placement data, assembly drawings and board files with GlobalWellPCB to review package details, component access and assembly questions.
- BOM & footprints
- Placement access
- Assembly instructions
Bring the board, BOM and assembly instructions into one consistent revision.
Prepare a design your assembler can build
DFA looks at the assembled board and the planned production steps. The review helps identify missing information and layout details that need attention before parts are placed and soldered.
BOM and package alignment
Check part references, package information, population options and footprint questions.
Placement and access
Review component spacing, orientations, connector positions and access for assembly or rework.
Soldering and stencil considerations
Review pad and mask information, thermal constraints and process questions for the planned assembly.
Assembly data and panel needs
Review placement files, polarity notes, fiducials, board handling and any stated panel requirements.
Files and feedback for your next step
Illustrative review format — not a customer project: Component/reference | Assembly concern | Recommended change | Customer decision | Drawing/BOM revision. Use these fields to define the expected review record. No completed customer report or measured result is represented.
Confirm the required formats and deliverables when we define your project scope.
Assembly findings list
See component references, file discrepancies and areas that need clarification.
Layout or documentation actions
Review the changes needed for package alignment, access and assembly instructions.
BOM and placement questions
Resolve missing information and population differences across the assembly data.
Review closure record
Track decisions and the final file revision agreed for the build.
Start with the information you already have
Send the available files together and identify the revision. Tell us which details are still to be confirmed.
Component information
BOM with manufacturer part numbers, quantities and reference designators.
Placement and drawings
Pick-and-place file, assembly drawings, polarity information and do-not-populate notes.
Board and process requirements
Gerber or PCB source, panel details, assembly method and any special soldering or handling requirements.
From your enquiry to the next design step
Send the complete assembly package
Keep the BOM, placement file and drawings on the same revision.
Review assembly risks
Check the data and layout against the proposed process.
Approve the changes
Resolve package, orientation and process questions with your team.
Release consistent files
Confirm the assembly package used for quotation and production.
Assembly settings and stencil decisions depend on the actual packages, board construction and process. Requirements are confirmed for your project.
Before you send your files
Is a BOM enough for a DFA review?
The BOM is essential, but placement data, assembly drawings and board files are also needed to review spacing, orientation and package alignment.
Can you review BGA or fine-pitch areas?
Include package datasheets and the local layout details. The scope should consider the actual footprint, routing, soldering and inspection requirements.
What if some components are not fitted?
Mark do-not-populate references and variant information clearly in the BOM and assembly drawing.
Does DFA cover production test access?
Assembly and test access are related, but test coverage, probe access and fixture requirements should be reviewed under DFT.
Ready to review your assembly files?
Send the BOM, placement data and board information through the PCBA assembly enquiry.
